Larry Sabato agrees:
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/3/31/113010.shtml
A good, very brief overview of the '06 Senate races, but the interesting part for Washington State comes when he says:
"Maria Cantwell (D-WA) is also vulnerable, not least because of GOP anger over a 'stolen' Governor's election in 2004; however, Washington leans Democratic and the Republicans have not yet lined up an impressive candidate to carry the banner against Cantwell."
Which is basically what I've said. I feel good that he agrees with me though, Sabato is a good analyst.
Anyhow, in the meantime, Cantwell is a little late on the bandwagon, but she's making noise about wanting to curb ID theft and linking it in part to the meth problem in the state. I guess it worked well enough for Rob McKenna in the AG race and Dave Reichert in the 8th Congressional race, so she's getting on the 'more funding' bandwagon.
It may well be that more funding is necessary to fight ID theft and meth, I'm not well versed in the funding of law enforcement, but it does say something to me that she's jumping on this bandwagon NOW, after it had been brought up so publicly by McKenna and Reichert.
BTW, I went to King County Councilwoman Kathy Lambert's kickoff breakfast a few days ago, and heard McKenna speak. He's already getting better then he was in his campaign in my opinion. I think bigger things are in store for him in the future, just not this time.

Yes, Sabato is a good analyst and I hope he is right. Cantwell has never had an original thought in her life. She simply tows the politically correct "women are victims" line and counts on naive King County voters buying it.
Cliff;
Found your blog from Kennedy versus Dayton. Interesting. Is there anything that would help defeat Cantwell? What are the chances that Rossi will get a new election? Is there anybody with state wide name ID to run? How about Michael Medved if Rossi doesn't run? Doesn't he live in Seattle? Is there a retired sports star available? Is the state GOP active to do more voter registration? Is it true that people from off the street can vote multiple times in King County without ID??
Wow, yah, that's kinda a mouthful.
As far as Rossi goes, he's got a good chance at getting a new election, but it's sooooooooooooooooo complicated as to why, I'm not even going to start on it. Try visiting

They have covered the election since before it even got interesting.
I'd also just watch the local seattle media in the coming months or so. Within a month, the trial will start, and all kinds of stuff is gonna come out gushing in the headlines.
Yes, Medved does live here, and I'd have to personally kidnap him and hide him from the world if he even considered running. He'd get 40% of the vote if he were really lucky.
Go read some past entries as to who might run. I have a couple of posts that detail all the realistic candidates I know of at this time.
Cliff;
Can I vote in King County in the next election by absentee ballot? Seems like folks in King County can vote w/o ID at every precint like a honeybee... Just look scruffy and wear a donk t-shirt... Are you sure Medved would only get 40%? In California, the professional gop pros don't have a chance in a state wide election, that's why we pushed Arnold for governator.

After Frist goes nuclear, you'll be hard pressed to defeat a Democrat Senator. I raise a glass to the DOCTOR!
Yahhhh. You keep thinking that.
That'll go down in history with 'Americans don't want Bush. We just have to make Kerry an acceptable alternative,' and Dashle's thinking that fillibustering and obstructing Bush wouldn't hurt him.
The arguements miss the point. Cantwell is vulnerable because she is anti-working class, pro-war and votes with the bush administration like she wants to be Bill Frist's bestest friend. She is far, far, far too right wing to win with real democrats in Washington state. She deserves to lose because of her pro-war stance. I will not be showing up at the polls in '06, and neither will other progressives. She only won by 2000 votes in '00... how is she going to win in '06 w/o progressives on her side?
